Basic Function

This position will be located at the Cerro Coso College Eastern Sierra College Center, Bishop and Mammoth Campuses.

This is a full-time, tenure-track, 175-day position as a community college Biology Instructor. Teaching faculty are responsible for providing a full professional week which includes but is not limited to General Biology, Microbiology, Anatomy/Physiology and Environmental Biology courses, and may include those at the developmental, college, and transfer levels.

Other duties include holding office hours, maintaining subject matter currency, using computer and multimedia technology for increased student engagement, attending department and college meetings, and participating in institutional activities.

Examples of institutional activities are assisting with student outreach and recruitment; participating in articulation events with high schools and four- year schools as appropriate; developing and maintain community connections; working with department and division colleagues to address student equity gaps; developing and revising curriculum; defining, assessing, and analyzing student learning outcomes; collegially participating in departmental, college and discipline-specific professional activities.

This assignment may include teaching at other campus sites, day or evening classes, weekend classes, large classes, distance learning. Cerro Coso also serves two correctional facilities.

Education and Experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s in any biological science,
OR – Bachelor’s in any biological science AND – Master’s in Biochemistry, Biophysics, or Marine Science,
OR – The equivalent. Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments in the field may be judged as equal to the stated minimum qualifications for these positions. Candidates who feel they possess such equivalent qualifications must request and submit an APPLICATION FOR EQUIVALENCE form. Supporting documents must be included with the completed form
AND – A demonstrated sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.

Any degree from a country other than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an evaluation service.
